Canadians stick together, so it’s no surprise Justin Bieber stepped up when asked to stand-in for Drake in the video for DJ Khaled’s “POPSTAR.”
The video, directed by Toronto’s Director X (aka Julien Christian Lutz), starts with Drake doing some of his best acting since Degrassi.
"It’s like you give someone everything you have and they’re just like, ‘Another one. Another one,” he complains after Khaled pressures him to make the video for one of two tracks they released in July.
“I already gave him the songs and now he wants a video and I can’t do a video,” says Drake, inside his Toronto mansion. “I can’t even make my own album in peace. I can’t even leave the country and this guy wants me to do a video for him.”
Cut to Bieber’s rap swagger in a video that was shot in a California mansion with a group of revellers – including Bieber’s wife Hailey and manager Scott “Scooter” Braun.
“Thanks JB…I owe u you one,” Drake wrote in an Instagram post. Bieber replied: “Anytime.”
No one in the video is wearing a face mask and there appears to be very little social distancing but the credits include a “COVID Compliance Officer,” medic, cleaning tech and four “COVID Security” people.
