Kendrick Lamar's music is being used to advocate for mental health issues, particularly depression.
In a new 90-second spot for U.S. health care provider Kaiser Permanente and the Find Your Words campaign, the hip-hop heavyweight's song, "i," which appeared on 2015's To Pimp a Butterfly, is used to address the importance of finding the words to talk about depression -- and it does so in such a touching way.
Throughout the clip, a boy makes his way through the city as he recites bars from the confessional anthem.
"Depression affects millions, but few talk about it. By having a conversation, you can help break the stigma, making depression easier for others to open up about," the YouTube description reads.
In light of Kid Cudi's recent talk about mental health issues, this spot shows just how powerful of a tool hip-hop can be to battle against the stigma around mental health.
Lamar is no stranger to depression either. Back in 2015, the rapper opened up to MTV about fusing this struggles into his art.
"Nothing was as vulnerable as ["u" off of To Pimp a Butterfly]. So it's even pulling from those experiences of coming up in Compton," he said. "It's pulling from the experience of going through change and accepting change — that's the hardest thing for man, accepting change."
