Kesha has added her voice to a campaign to end cyber bullying and online harassment.
“It happens every day,” the pop star says in one of two public service announcements that debuted last week. “And does anyone speak up? Saying nothing says everything. Speak up.”
Aimed at young people, the Hack Harassment campaign was created by Intel, Vox Media and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
According to Hack Harassment, 70 per cent of young adults have been the target of online harassment and 72 per cent of internet users have witnessed online harassment.
On Instagram, Kesha said she was honoured to be part of the campaign.
“This issue is near and dear to my heart, as I have been bullied online for many years,” she wrote. “I know i'm not alone in that. I know many people experience negative and hateful comments from perfect strangers.
“The Internet and social media can be so helpful in many ways, but one downside is that some people feel it's ok to hide behind a screen and be hateful to others. I, for one, believe no one should be subjected to harassment online.”
