Lady Gaga and Prince William teamed up to discuss the many layers that surround the stigma of mental illness in a recent FaceTime call, which went viral on Tuesday.
During the call, which was in support of Prince William's Heads Together campaign, the pop star and the prince broke down the shame that arrives with mental health from their respective homes. William kicked off the conversation, applauding the pop titan for being so candid with her experiences.
"I read your open letter you wrote the other day, and I thought it was incredibly moving and brave of you to write down such personal feelings," he told Mother Monster from a room at Kensington Palace, before she took a dive into her own journey.
"It made me very nervous at first, waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is something that is very hard to describe," Gaga explained. "There’s a lot of shame attached to mental illness; you feel like something’s wrong with you…I should be so happy, but you can’t help it if in the morning, when you wake up, you are so tired, you are so sad, you are so full of anxiety and the shakes that you can barely think."
Later on in the conversation, William invited Gaga to participate in further conversations about mental health when she visits the U.K. in October.
The video appeared one day after Prince Harry spoke about his personal struggles with therapy after losing his mother, Princess Diana, at the age of 12.
