Linkin Park celebrated the life of Chester Bennington with a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles Friday night, which was broadcast live on the band’s YouTube channel.
The show featured a number of notable guest performances including Blink-182, Gavin Rossdale, Bebe Rexha, Steve Aoki, members of No Doubt and even Canadian pop singer Alanis Morrisette.
Along with musical performances, the late rock star’s wife of 12 years Talinda Bennington also delivered a touching message onstage: “Chester and I always loved bringing people together, and he was filled with joy when our house was full of family, friends, kids, dogs, cats, birds, turtles -- the more the merrier -- and he would have loved all of this tonight... He was incredibly proud of the work done for Music For Relief. He knew it saved lives, and saving lives is exactly what we plan to do in Chester’s memory. It is time we recognize that mental health is as important as our physical health. It is my mission to make it easier to have access to mental health resources.”
The event was not only a soulful tribute but was also intended to raise awareness for depression and suicide prevention, through Linking Park’s One More Light Fund.
As to the band’s future, co-founder Mike Shinoda commented “We don’t know where we’re going.” However, it appears as though Bennington’s legacy will live on, as the band has been captioning #MakeChesterProud on social media.
