Madonna has found herself in hot water after posting a bizarre video showing her talking about COVID-19 while in a bathtub.
Nearly unrecognizable, the 61-year-old pop icon is seen sitting in a tub of milky water with flower petals as ominous music plays.
“That’s the thing about COVID-19. It doesn’t care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are. How smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell,” she says.
“It’s the great equalizer and what’s terrible about it is what’s great about it. What’s terrible about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways, and what’s wonderful about it, is that it’s made us all equal in many ways.”
Madonna finishes with: “Like I used to say at the end of ‘Human Nature’ every night, if the ship goes down, we’re all going down together.”
The video is captioned: “No-Discrimination- Covid-19!!”
Some fans have dismissed Madonna’s message as “privileged."
"It’s not an equalizer at all," commented journalist Martina Taubert. "What are you talking about? It starts with the places where wealthy people hide now- it goes on that they buy breathing machines - that they are ready to buy stocks as soon as it will make sense .... they can store 4-5 freezers full with food and they do."
Another person wrote: “Sorry my queen, love u so much, but we’re not equal. We can die from the same diseases, but the poor will suffer the most. Do not romanticize nothing of this tragedy.”
Others pointed out that the rich and famous seem to have easier access to testing. "Sorry Madonna but the wealthy like yourself can get tested even with no symptoms," wrote one.
“Things outside your mansion are very different from what you think,” commented another. “Stay safe and be a little more empathic [sic] to the less privileged ones.”
