Miley Cyrus is finally back with new music! She returns after a two-year hiatus with her song “Malibu”, a breezy pop track about young love.
“That's when I make the wish, to swim away with the fish/ Is it supposed to be this hot all summer long?/ I never would've believed you if three years ago you told me/ I'd be here writing this song,” she sings.
Cyrus recently came under fire for comments in her Billboard cover story where she slammed contemporary hip hop lyrics. “Come sit on my d--k, suck on my c--k.” I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much ‘Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c--k’ – I am so not that.”
Many people pointed out the hypocrisy, as she used elements of black culture previously, such as twerking, when it was convenient, but is now dismissing it.
She addressed the controversy on Instagram, writing, “I respect ALL artists who speak their truth and appreciate ALL genres of music (country , pop , alternative .... but in this particular interview I was asked about rap) I have always and will continue to love and celebrate hip hop as I've collaborated with some of the very best! At this point in my life I am expanding personally/musically and gravitating more towards uplifting, conscious rap!”
The cover art for the new single was photographed by her famous actor fiancé, Liam Hemsworth. The accompanying video for the tune sees Cyrus frolicking on the beach and reflecting in nature.
