Sometimes there are no better acoustics than in your bathroom, as perfectly displayed by Miranda Lambert in her new unplugged performance video for "Tin Man," and iHeartRadio has the premiere for you to watch right here.
In the candid video, which is entirely shot in black and white and from one perspective, Miranda sits on her bathroom floor in a distressed t-shirt as she somberly strums her acoustic guitar while belting out the song's emotional lyrics beside her bath tub. "'Cause love is so damn hard/Take it from me darling/You don't want a heart."
"Tin Man" is from Miranda's 2016 The Weight of These Wings album, on Disc 2, which she named The Heart, and was written by the country star, alongside Jack Ingram and Jon Randall on her front porch – a place she calls "magical," according to The Tennessean. The song pays a little homage to Kenny Chesney's 1994 song, "Tin Man."
In fact, she told the Nashville-based newspaper of the single, “This song sort of wrote itself. I was a little worried at first about writing another song like that but I told Kenny … I felt the same emotion I feel when I hear that song. I was feeling it myself and the other two co-writers were feeling it as well. It comes from the same place and I guess it inspired it.”
Speaking of inspiration, the song may refer to a man with a tough exterior, but Miranda is also singing to the one and only Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, who if you'll remember, deeply desires a heart (which is the one thing he lacks). In the film's famous song "If I Only Had a Brain," Tin Man sings, "Just because I'm presumin'/That I could be kind-a-human/If I only had heart."
However, in Miranda's "Tin Man," she is saying that the grass isn't always greener on the other side with lyrics like, "Hey there Mr. Tin Man/You don't know how lucky you are." And in fact, she is willing to trade him her heart for his body of armor. "By the way there Mr. Tin Man/If you don't mind the scars/You give me your armour/And you can have my heart."
