Niall Horan was singing the praises of Katy Perry during his appearance on Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden.
“If it wasn’t for Katy…,” the singer said, while seated beside Perry’s partner Orlando Bloom.
Corden played a clip of Horan’s 2010 audition on The X Factor, where Perry was a guest judge. “Just because you’re likeable… likeableness isn’t going to sell records,” she told him. “It’s talent and you have… a seed of it.”
Perry’s vote put Horan through and he went on to become part of global phenomenon One Direction.
Horan told Bloom that his audition was going “very south” and Perry kept him in the competition. “If it wasn’t for her I definitely would not be here and she knows it,” he said.
“It was just mind boggling. Little did I know what would come afterwards."
On Wednesday, Horan announced that his third solo album, titled The Show, will be out on June 9. The lead single "Heaven" is out now.
