Carpool Karaoke cruised to new heights on Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden by featuring Sir Paul McCartney.
The Beatles guitarist joined Corden for a drive around Liverpool to sing classics like “Drive My Car” (naturally), “Blackbird” and “Penny Lane.”
McCartney recalled the inspiration for “Let It Be." “My mom … came to me in the dream, and was reassuring me, saying ‘It’s going to be OK, just let it be.’ I felt so great,” he said.
“She gave me the positive word. So I woke up … I wrote the song. It was about positivity.”
Singing the song with McCartney brought Corden to tears.
McCartney took Corden to his childhood home, where the current resident let him revisit the rooms where he and John Lennon worked on songs together.
“It makes me realize how long the journey has been,” McCartney said. “Wow, the distance from here to where we went and where we are now is phenomenal.”
The segment ended with a stop at a pub, where McCartney became a human jukebox.
McCartney’s 17th solo album, Egypt Station, is due out Sept. 7.
