Peanuts is one of the most beloved comics ever and Toronto’s Rush has one of the most fanatic fan-bases in the history of music. Combining the two creates a kind of Venn diagram of the adorable and the awesome, and it's surprisingly seamless.
YouTuber Garren Lazar is behind this latest upload, which amassed nearly 375,000 views in its first two weeks online.
If you're not familiar with the title track from Rush's 1976 prog rock masterpiece, "2112" is as dynamic a piece of music as there is, mixing mid-'70s heavy rock with acoustic music and special effects. Oh, and it's also over 21 minutes long (21:12 to be precise).
Lazar's YouTube channel also includes a number of classic rock and Peanuts mashups, but he says this was by far the most challenging.
"Ladies and gentlemen, '2112' is officially the most difficult Peanuts Parody I've ever made to date," he wrote in a comment pinned below the video. "I know what you're thinking; 'you did the entire The Wall album by Pink Floyd! How is this harder?' It's not about the length that makes doing a parody of a song a challenge, it's the aesthetics of a song.
'2112' was not all about syncing, I had to incorporate skills other than Final Cut Pro; such as Adobe Photoshop, and other tools to make this video possible. But, in the end it was worth it, and I hope that you all enjoy it!"
