Avi Kaplan, one-fifth of the singing group Pentatonix, shared that he will be departing the band in an emotional video posted to Facebook Friday.

Kaplan admitted this was a decision he didn’t take lightly, but could no longer keep up the pace of constant touring and recording new music.

“I’ve struggled with this decision a lot. It has been the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my life,” he shared.

Kaplan continued, “Throughout my journey with PTX, this pace has always been a struggle for me. It’s been hard for me not to be with my family and friends when I need them or when they need me. It’s been hard to not be able to escape into nature when I’m feeling overwhelmed or just need some time to myself.”

The singer said this wouldn’t be the end, and that he would continue making music “with my whole heart”.
