Most children would cringe if their father showed up to perform at a school assembly – but when your dad is Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it’s pretty cool.
Smith and his bandmates surprised students at Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California on Wednesday with a performance at its Great Pumpkin Day Assembly.
“Who rocks out at 9:30 a.m. at my kids school? We do!,” Smith tweeted, along with a video clip.

It was Halloween, of course, so the Peppers were in costume. Smith wore a Guy Fawkes/Pope combo, bassist Flea donned a skeleton bodysuit, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer wore a suit and green wig and frontman Anthony Kiedis sported a schoolboy outfit.
Smith has three sons, ranging in age from 6 to 13 with current wife Nancy. He has three adult children from previous relationships.
