Shawn Mendes has proven he has true love for fellow Canadian superstar Drake.
The 18-year-old “Mercy” singer recently put his signature spin on Drizzy’s “Fake Love” during an appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
Judging by video of the performance, Mendes is passionate about the track, which he sings while playing electric guitar.
The teen star, who grew up only 30 minutes east of Drake’s Toronto home, didn’t actually meet the rapper until last month’s American Music Awards.
Drake posted a photo of him and Mendes together at a party and captioned it: “Pickering Gawd.” Mendes posted the same photo and wrote: “True legend!”
It was only a couple of months ago when Mendes told his Twitter followers he had a dream about getting shade from Drake.
“Had a dream I was playing soccer and on the way to the bathroom I saw Drake, so I introduced myself to him and he had no clue who I was,” he shared on Twitter.
“So I went on to say ‘I’m from Toronto you know! The guy who sings Stitches’ and he’s like ah cool I don’t know that track.
“I was heartbroken.”
