Shawn Mendes has put an end to the narrative that he started on Vine.
The Canadian singer took part in a Wired “Autocomplete Interview” – in which stars answer questions about themselves that are commonly searched in Google – and revealed he did not, in fact, debut on the now-defunct video platform.
“Everybody says I started on Vine. The truth is it was YouTube and then I started posting Vines,” Mendes explained.
Mendes is basking in attention on social media now that his highly-anticipated third album is out ("Thank you, with all of my heart thank you!!," he tweeted."I LOVE YOU!!!!"). Fans are taking to social media to share their favourite songs from the collection and reviews of the self-titled album are generally glowing ("a remarkably well-crafted pop album," opined Variety).
In the Wired video, he also shared his knowledge of languages. Asked if he speaks French, Mendes replied: “I can say ‘Est ce que je peux utilisé la toilette?’ which means ‘Can I use the bathroom?’ – which is the only phrase I ever learned because I was just trying to get out of French class all the time.”

Mendes said he graduated from high school only “because my teachers are angels sent from above and they helped me through it” and admitted he’d like to study music and voice at university.
The singer said the first of his five tattoos features “a landscape of my city Toronto.
“I say my city,” he added. “It’s actually Drake’s city.”
At the end of the segment, Mendes admitted the search queries were “much more appropriate than I was expecting.”
