Taylor Swift’s new album evermore dropped overnight and came with a video for the opening track, “willow.”
Directed by the 30-year-old singer, the video picks up where the one for “cardigan,” from folklore, left off and follows Swift on a fantastical journey. Along the way there are nods to other folklore tracks like “Mirrorball” and “Seven.”
“One scene represents how I feel about fame,” she explained in a YouTube chat ahead of the premiere. “There’s a scene to represent each season throughout the journey of the video.”
Taeok Lee, one of Swift’s tour dancers, appears in the video, which you can watch below.
Swift announced the release of evermore – described as “folklore’s sister record” – on Thursday morning.
“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” Swift said of her decision to put out an album just five months after folklore. “In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning
“I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.”
folklore is up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys, which will be handed out on Jan. 31. "Cardigan" is nominated for Song of the Year and Pop Solo Performance and "Exile," ft. Bon Iver is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
