Fans got their first look this weekend at a Toronto-shot series based on the comic books of ex-My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.
The teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy – set to Tiffany’s 1987 cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”– offers a quick glimpse of Mary J. Blige as villain Cha-Cha at the 41-second mark.
Ontario-based actor Colm Feore (as The Monocle) and Halifax native Ellen Page (as Vanya Hargreeves) are showcased in the trailer for the 10-episode series set to debut on Netflix on Feb. 15.
Way, who recorded four studio albums with My Chemical Romance between 2002 and 2010, created The Umbrella Academy for Dark Horse Comics in 2007. It follows a group of seven young people with superpowers who fight evil.
The Umbrella Academy was filmed during the first half of this year in and around Toronto. It also stars British actor Tom Hopper and features Kate Walsh in a recurring role.
