The Highwomen may not immediately ring any bells – but the members of the group certainly will.
Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires on Friday debuted “Redesigning Women,” the first single from their forthcoming debut album (out Sept. 6).
The song, Hemby explained in a release, is about “the life most women are living today. We juggle so much in 24 hours and I wanted to write a song that reflected the goodness, the madness and the hilarity of it all.”
The track comes with a fiery video, directed by Elizabeth Olmstead, that features The Highwomen as well as friends like Lauren Alaina, Wynonna Judd, Cassadee Pope, Tanya Tucker and Raelynn.
The self-titled album, produced by Dave Cobb, includes contributions from Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert Jason Isbell and many others.
“Anyone can be a Highwoman,” Carlile said, in a release. “It’s about banding together, abandoning as much ego as humanly possible, holding one another up and amplifying other women every chance we get. Shoulder to shoulder. One push, one love.”
The Highwomen are donating $4 from every merchandise bundle sale to She Is The Music, an organization advocating for inclusivity and equality for women in the music industry.
The quartet will perform “Redesigning Women” live for the first time at the Newport Folk Festival on July 26.
