The upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, Back To Black, is getting closer to its spring release date and today (January 11) the first teaser trailer has been released.
Marisa Abela (Industry) plays the lead role of Winehouse, the troubled soul singer from London who rose to fame in the 2000s with her two albums, 2003’s Frank and 2006’s smash, Back To Black.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey), the film is set to depict her struggles with drugs and alcohol, which led to her death at the age of 27 by accidental alcohol poisoning.
Back To Black takes fans on a “journey that took [Winehouse] from the craziness and colour of 90’s Camden High Street to global adoration – and back again, Back to Black crashes through the looking glass of celebrity to watch this journey from behind the mirror, to see what Amy saw, to feel what she felt.”
Jack O’Donnell (Skins) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) co-star as Winehouse’s boyfriend, Blake Fielder-Civil, and father, Mitch Winehouse, respectively.
Back To Black will hit the big screens in North American on May 10, 2024.
