A movie about the life and death of Whitney Houston is in the works, it was announced this week.
“From all my personal and professional experience with Whitney from her late teenage years to her tragic premature death, I know the full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told,” music mogul Clive Davis said, in a release.
Davis will produce I Wanna Dance With Somebody along with Houston’s sister-in-law Pat Houston, who represents her estate. It will be directed by Canada's Stella Meghie from a script by Andrew McCarten, who wrote the screenplay for the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
According to a release, the film will be a “joyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom.”
Producers promise it will be “very frank about the price that super-stardom exacted.”
No casting information has been announced.
Houston, who died in 2012, is one of this year’s inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The May 2 ceremony has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
