Will Canadian nominees be attending the Grammy Awards on Feb. 12?
Drake, who has eight nominations, will be performing in the UK on the night of the big show and according to TMZ, Justin Bieber (who is up for four awards) is going to be a no-show.
The website claims Bieber is boycotting because “he just doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.”
There’s been no comment from Bieber or his reps.
It’s true that Bieber hasn’t exactly received a lot of Grammy love over the years. In 2011, he lost Best New Artist to Esperanza Spalding and Best Pop Vocal Album (My World 2.0) to Lady Gaga.
Bieber wasn’t nominated again until 2016, when his Jack Ü collaboration earned a Best Dance Recording nom — and won.
This year, Bieber is up for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
(We know for sure that Bieber won’t be attending the Juno Awards on April 2 as he’ll be performing in Brazil.)
Drake, meanwhile, has only won a single Grammy out of 27 nominations going back to 2010.
This year, the Grammys snubbed Canadians like Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara.
But northern talent will be represented by The Weeknd, who is not nominated this year but will be performing with Daft Punk. He is reportedly planning to attend with girlfriend Selena Gomez -- which is another reason for Bieber to stay home and watch the Grammys on TV.
TMZ said artists like Kanye West and Frank Ocean are also skipping this year’s Grammys.
