Country music is in trouble, according to William Michael Morgan.
The 25-year-old singer, who describes himself as a “traditionalist,” took to Twitter to share his thoughts after Taste of Country tweeted a list of “Who’s Saving ‘Real’ Country Music.”
Morgan replied: “I was debating whether to speak my mind or not. I decided I am just gonna say that the state of country music at the moment is far from salvageable. It will take real singers. With real songs to turn this around.”
When a fan opined that country music “has never been better or more diverse,” Morgan responded: “Yeah. Some people like diversity. And some people like country music.”
The Mississippi-born singer, who’s about to hit the road with Alan Jackson, hasn’t released a new album since his 2016 debut Vinyl. It spawned the Top 10 hit “I Met a Girl,” co-written by Sam Hunt.
Morgan tweeted: “I do what I do. And that’s country music. REAL country music.”
