Willie Nelson takes on songs made famous by Frank Sinatra on his latest album, My Way, which will be released on Sept. 14.
The title track – Sinatra’s biggest hit – was written by Ottawa’s Paul Anka based upon a 1967 French song by Claude François and Jacques Revaux.
The collection also includes standards like “Fly Me To The Moon” and “It Was A Very Good Year” as well as the first single “Summer Wind.”
Nelson teams with Norah Jones on the 1929 Cole Porter song “What Is This Thing Called Love?”
My Way, the 85-year-old country star’s second album release this year, was produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings.
Nelson and Sinatra, who died in 1998, were friends (in the ‘80s, Sinatra opened for Nelson in Vegas).
“I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank,” Nelson told AARP Magazine recently. “He didn't worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever—he could sing it either way, and that's the feel you have to have.”
