Wiz Khalifa has become only the third rap artist – after Eminem and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – to earn Diamond certification for a single.
Khalifa’s 2015 hit “See You Again,” featuring Charlie Puth, officially achieved the milestone on Nov. 20, according to the RIAA. It represents sales of at least 10 million in the U.S.
Eminem earned Diamond certifications in 2014 for “Not Afraid” and earlier this year for “Lose Yourself” and “Love the Way You Lie.” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis hit the mark in 2015 for “Thrift Shop.”
A handful of hip-hop acts – including Notorious B.I.G., MC Hammer and 2Pac – have achieved Diamond status for albums.
In Canada, “See You Again” was certified 4x Platinum in 2016, recognizing sales of at least 320,000.’
The song, featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack in 2015, spent 12 non-consecutive weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and held the record for most-viewed music video on YouTube until being toppled by “Despacito” last year.
