Young Thug was allegedly handed a Percocet pill inside an Atlanta courtroom on Wednesday by one of his co-defendants.
Jury selection has begun in the trial of the 31-year-old rapper, who was arrested last May and charged with several crimes related to his alleged involvement in the YSL street gang. He is also facing two drug-related charges.
On Thursday, Fulton County prosecutors filed a motion claiming Kahlieff Adams walked up to Young Thug, who was seated next to his lawyer, and “extended a closed right hand.” The rap star, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, then “closed his right hand around the contraband and placed his closed right hand underneath the table … to conceal his receipt of the illegal contraband.”
WSB posted surveillance video showing the alleged handoff and then a deputy confronting Young Thug, who “turns over the pill.” The station reported that “when deputies searched Adams, they found him in possession of Percocet, marijuana and tobacco wrapped in plastic and food seasonings to conceal the odour of weed, according to investigators.” Adams was taken to hospital after he appeared to ingest other contraband to hide it from deputies.
A lawyer for Young Thug, who has been in custody since his arrest, told reporters his client “had nothing to do with what went on in the courtroom” and insisted the rapper did not know what he was handed. He said Adams “attempted to pass something to Mr. Williams who immediately turned it over to the deputy.”
Another lawyer for Young Thug told Rolling Stone his client was cleared of any wrongdoing.
