BREAKING | CannTrust says Health Canada has suspended its licence
Some unsettling news for hundreds of Pelham workers following news that CannTrust has had its licence suspended.
CannTrust Holdings Inc. says it received a notice of licence suspension from Health Canada, which has been investigating the cannabis company for allegedly cultivating pot in unlicensed rooms.
The Vaughan, Ont.-based company says the notice it received from the regulator late this morning indicates that Health Canada has suspended its authority to produce cannabis, other than cultivating and harvesting, and to sell cannabis.
CannTrust is Pelham's largest employer, with over 300 people working at the Balfour Street operation.
Last week the company laid off 20 per cent of its workforce, or 180 people, to “restructure” the company’s workforce given recent regulatory issues.
