Work begins soon to install protections along Burgoyne Bridge
Safety measures will be installed along the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines by this spring.
A simple picket barrier design will be installed on the outside of the bridge while a stainless steel net will stretch between the two bridge sections.
Rankin Construction will be starting prep work along the span over the next few days.
During construction, lane closures will be in effect at certain times along the bridge and on the 406 below.
Traffic will be closed in one direction on the bridge until the project wraps up in May of 2020.
Niagara Regional Council decided to move forward with the protection measures after Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji presented a report entitled 'Preventing Deaths by Suicide on Public Infrastructure' following a series of deaths.
