City of Grand Forks looking at some changes to Cannabis Retail Store Zoning

The City of Grand Forks is working on a couple of zoning amendment changes when it comes to the Cannabis Retail Store zoning, set by the previous council.

Mayor Brian Taylor says one is the 100 metre separation between retail stores.

He says for retail stores, separation could be a very complicated issue in terms of planning, because the application process can take months, and the approval of one could disallow the approval for another.

He thinks they should be able to be located where reasonable, as long as it fits in with their other zoning rules.

They're also planning to take out the 50 metre setback from the highway, another rule they didn't see as a benefit to the community.

There will be a public hearing at the next council meeting, February 11th.
