A funding injection from the Vancouver Foundation is set to see the Nelson Civic Theatre Society and Ymir Tiny Lights Festival tackle a systematic lack of diversity and inclusion in rural arts organizations, performance opportunities, and audiences.

Tiny Lights Executive Director Carla Stephenson says a Rural Arts Inclusion Lab will help bring together a handful of stakeholders to brainstorm next steps.

That’s thanks to over $288,000 as the Vancouver Foundation approved a Field of Interest Systems Change Test grant.

A release says Social Innovation labs help allow voices and sectors to explore complex problems and test novel solutions.

The project kicks off this month - a website is set to be launched in the coming weeks.
