Emergency Shelter opens tonight in Trail

While you're turning up your thermostat, the province is turning up their shelter space numbers through the Emergency Shelter Program.

A release from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing says almost 13-hundred-55 temporary shelters and over 8-hundred-20 extreme weather shelters are hitting B-C this season.

Sheila Adcock is the Contract Manager for Career Development Services, which operates Trail's La Nina Emergency Shelter.

Adcock says the need for shelter spaces effects communities across the province.

She says up until this point they've been able to welcome 6 guests a night and they haven't had to turn guests away. They don't know what this season will look like, there seems to be a bigger crisis in this area as well as province wide due to the availability of affordable housing.

She adds the shelter opens at 8-P-M tonight (Friday).
