Industrial accident near Kaslo leads to big marijuana grow op

PoliceLights

An industrial accident in Meadow Creek led to a substantial marijuana grow op last week.

Kaslo RCMP say a 46 year old Meadow Creek man was seriously injured following a  workplace injury on Copper Creek Road last Monday.

A boom crane the man was in had collapsed.

Police and WorkSafe BC attended the scene, and investigators determined the incident was likely the result of criminal negligence and sealed off the property.

A Criminal code search of the property uncovered evidence that workers on the scene were allegedly attempting to tamper with live BC Hydro wires.

As investigators were conducting their search warrant an extremely large marihuana grow operation was discovered, with approximately 11,000 plants.

Police say while multiple legal licenses to grow marijuana were associated with the address, the legal allowance was significantly below the amount located and seized.

RCMP investigators continue to work with Health Canada officials, and charges are being considered under the Criminal Code and Cannabis Act.
