Nine projects to receive funding from the Kootenay Lake Conservation Fund

There are 9 projects receiving funding this year from the Kootenay Lake Conservation Fund.

The Kootenay Conservation Program Coordinates the fund on behalf of the tax based RDCK service.

Spokesperson Juliet Craig says the Regional District commissioned a report identifying priorities for conservation in the region.

Craig says surveys done over the years showed people in the area value fish and wildlife and their habitat, forests, and water quality.

According to Craig, the projects also have economic benefits, by contributing small amounts to projects, they can leverage other additional funding support.

There's over 176-thousand dollars going to a number of projects, including property acquisition of Next Creek, Grizzly Bear Coexistence Solutions by Friends of the Lardeau River.

There's also Fish/Bear Lake Western Toad Ecology, and a North Kootenay Lake Water Monitoring Project.
