Overdose Alert issued by Interior Health in the Kootenay Boundary

Interior Health has put out an overdose alert in the Kootenay Boundary following several severe illicit drug overdoses in the Castlegar Area.

Officials say they appear to be the result of cocaine contaminated with fentanyl.

IH is urging residents using or considering using drugs to reconsider, or take steps to prevent overdose.

That includes a reminder to not mix different drugs, including pharmaceutical medications, street drugs and alcohol.

They also say don't take drugs when you're alone.

Carry a naloxone kit, and know how to use it.

Meanwhile RCMP are reporting a bust in Castlegar recently involving what's believed to be fentanyl.

Acting Sergeant Brett Turner says  the combined Crime Reduction Unit out of Trail and Castlegar and General Duty Members did a search, and seized drugs and a significant amount of cash. 

One man was arrested and remains in custody.
