SMRT1 Tech President addresses smart vending machine, seed funding

SMRT1 Technologies is a Kootenay tech-company that has wowed the area as of late with it's touch screen vending machines.

President and Founder Brad Pommen was at a recent event discussing the local technology sector next to Nelson's Visitor Centre, where one of these machines can be found.

The EZ Rock Newsroom caught up with Pommen as he showcased the latest technology and dispensed a free brochure.

He says the pandemic slowed down investment seeding many months ago but the previous night he’d heard some positive news: A front funder campaign that had been launched allowing the company to take in investors from across Canada for their private company raised almost $450,000 in their seed round.

The next step is getting more machines on the ground and continuing work with the tourism and economic-development sectors.

Pommen says the next machines are focused on mask and face covering dispensing with the latest technology allowing you to interact with the vending machine from your phone.

90% of Pommen's team is based in Nelson.
