BC Announces Return to School Plan for September
Parents, students and teachers anxious about the coming school year received an outline Wednesday about B-C's plans for a safe return to full-time classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Education Minister Rob Fleming said most students from kindergarten to Grade 12 will return to schools starting September 8 with school districts posting final details online by August 26.
He indicated students will be organized into learning groups to reduce the number of people they come in contact with on the advice of provincial health officer Doctor Bonnie Henry.
The groups call for a maximum of 60 students in middle and elementary schools and up to 120 in high schools.
Fleming said the province is allocating more than 45-million dollars to support enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning, hand-hygiene stations and masks, while staff and parents will monitor students for COVID-19 symptoms.
The BC Teachers Federation feels more time is needed to make preparations in time for a return to classrooms after the Labour Day weekend.
