Kootenay Columbia School Board Apporoves back-to-classroom Plan
The Kootenay-Columbia School Board has approved a plan that will see no more than 10 students in classrooms when they return next week.
Chairperson Catherine Zaitsoff said the facilities are clean thanks to a diligent custodial staff, with hand washing and social distancing protocols in place for June 1.
Zaitsoff added based on survey results that about half of eligible students are expected return on a staggered basis.
“K-to-5, they will be (coming back) two days a week, and then grades six and seven will be one day a week and then grade eight through 12 will be one day a week,” said Zaitsoff.
Trustees approved the district’s 38-page detailed plan covering their multi-faceted return to school protocol.
Zaitsoff felt their commitment to constant hand washing and other safety provisions set out by the province makes District 20 facilities the safest places possible for pupils and staff.
“Rest assured that our teachers and our admin. and basically everyone involved in School District 20 is doing everything possible to keep our children safe and our staff safe,” said Zaitsoff who added there will be close supervision when students spend time outside of their classrooms.
