RDCK Removes Some Properties from Talbott Creek Fire Evacuation Alert
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has taken 129 homes near the Talbott Creek Wildfire off evacuation alert.
They are west of the Indian Point Road and Little Slocan South Road intersection, as well as all properties south of Little Slocan River.
But there is no change for residents of the remaining 176 homes told to be ready to evacuate on a moment’s notice back on August 22nd.
The RDCK identified 305 at-risk-properties in Lebahdo, Little Slocan, Vallican and Passmore five days after the lightning-caused fire ignited in the Slocan Valley 3.5km northeast of Highway 6 and around 30km north of Castlegar.
Heavy smoke is still grounding the nine helicopters leaving over 100 crew members to battle the 1,000 hectare blaze on the ground.
Southeast Fire Centre officials said the remaining residents remained on evacuation alert because of fire activity in the northern and eastern sections.
Only local traffic will be allowed on Slocan River Road because of the 60 fire fighters providing structure protection along Slocan River Road north of Natlamp Road.
