Trail RCMP Help Find a Missing Child During a Challenging Week

Trail RCMP helped coordinate the successful search for a missing 4-year-old girl.

Officers, the girl's parents, Carnation Drive neighbours and a roofing crew working near-by jumped into action late Monday morning and found the child in a neighbouring yard just before South Columbia Search and Rescue personnel arrived.

Police say the little girl was frightened, but otherwise okay.

It was a tragic and challenging Friday afternoon for Trail RCMP.

A Maple Ridge man in his 50's died after falling down a 20-foot bank along the Columbia River while fishing near the Waneta Bridge.

Two other fishermen and first responders were unable to revive the man and police suspect a medical incident caused his collapse.

Meanwhile, officers responding to a mental health call on Second Avenue near the Victoria Street Bridge had to chase down an agitated man after trying to calm him down.

Police said the Trail resident in his 40's fled through yards before jumping into the Columbia River and swam to a floating dock at Gyro Park.

First responders on the Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue vessel recovered the six youth stranded at the end of the dock before the man jumped back into the water.

Police said he was rescued by officers and taken to hospital for a full medical assessment.

A 33-year-old Trail man is accused of breaking the glass front door of a Bay Avenue business and getting inside at about 3 a.m. Friday.

Police say charges are pending.

And a 57-year-old Trail man called police before becoming the victim of a popular dating site scam.

Police said he suspected something was wrong when someone claiming to be a Nelson woman stranded in Malaysia, asked for money to be e-transferred to a U-S account in Washington.
