Katy Perry Calls Taylor Swift Feud 'Just A Misunderstanding'

Katy Perry has downplayed her feud with Taylor Swift as “actually just a misunderstanding” and explained why the two pop stars made up.

“It’s like we have so much in common, there’s probably only 10 people in the world that have the same things in common,” Perry said during an appearance on an episode of Ellen that aired Wednesday. "I was like, ‘We should really be friends over that and share our strengths and our weaknesses and our challenges.’ We can help each other get through a lot.”

The rift stemmed from Swift’s anger over Perry hiring three of her dancers for a tour. They traded jabs through lyrics – Swift in “Bad Blood” and Perry in “Swish Swish.”

In her 2017 Carpool Karaoke segment, Perry said she made an effort to make things right. “Honestly, it's really like she started it, and it's time for her to finish it,” she said. “I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn't speak to me.

“It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I'm like, OK, cool, cool, cool, that's how you want to deal with it? Karma!”

She added: “I think personally that women together, not divided, and none of this petty bulls**t, women together will heal the world.”

Last year, Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch and a handwritten letter that opened with: “Hey old friend, I’ve been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us…” Then, this past June, Perry shared a photo of a plate of cookies with “Peace At Last” written on the plate in icing.

On Ellen, Perry called the feud “unfortunate.”

She explained: “I’m all about redemption and forgiveness and for setting an example for those younger people… that it can be cool to ask for forgiveness and confront someone that you may have an issue with or a problem with and talk it out.”

Meanwhile, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Swift said her spat with Perry was inevitable.

“We’ve had some really good conversations,” she said. “We were talking about how we’ve had miscommunications with people in the past, not even specifically with each other. She’s like, ‘I’m a Scorpio. Scorpios just strike when they feel threatened’, and I was like, ‘Well, I’m an archer (Sagittarius). We literally stand back, assess the situation, process how we feel about it, raise a bow, pull it back, and fire.’

“So it’s completely different ways of processing pain, confusion, misconception. And oftentimes I’ve had this delay in feeling something that hurts me and then saying that it hurts me.”
