Farrow: Harvey Weinstein Turned to Woody Allen To Fight #MeToo
Harvey Weinstein hit up Woody Allen for help to take down Allen’s son Ronan Farrow, according to his new expose, Catch and Kill.
Farrow and his father have been estranged for years. Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow has accused him of sexual assault, a charge her brother supports. Both Allen and Weinstein deny wrongdoing.
Farrow, of course, was one of the key reporters who broke the story that eventually led to Weinstein being accused of misconduct, including rape, by dozens of women. Farrrow is also credited helping instigate the #MeToo movement, which activists and Allen himself have cited as the reason Allen lost on out a multi-film multi-million deal with Amazon. (Allen and Amazon are currently duking it in court).
In Catch and Kill, Farrow writes: “Weinstein seemed to want a strategic playbook — for quashing sexual assault allegations, and for dealing with me.”
“How did you deal with this?” Weinstein allegedly asked the director.
Allen declined to get involved, according to Farrow. “Jeez, I’m so sorry. Good luck,” Allen allegedly said on the call.
Farrow also claims that Weinstein tried to hire intelligence firms to squash the story. Weinstein denies the claims. “It is a fiction to suggest that any individuals were targeted or suppressed at any time,” his spokesperson, Sallie Hofmeister, told the New Yorker.
