IT'S FRIDAY! Just Try To Get 'Baby Shark' Out Of Your Head
IT'S FRIDAY! is a weekly dose of fun to help you forget about the week that was and to nudge you into the weekend with a smile. Check back every week for a little bit of Friday frivolity!
You’re going to want to listen to “Baby Shark” if it’s the last thing you do (doo doo doo doo doo doo).
If this ear worm hasn’t already infected you, you’re probably not a toddler or the parent of one.
The video for the remix, which was posted in 2016, has been played more than 2.1 billion times – making it one of the Top 25 most-viewed videos of all time on YouTube.
This week, “Baby Shark” debuted at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Play at your own risk:
The song comes from Pinkfong!, the creation of South Korean educational company SmartStudy. It’s based on a traditional singalong from the 1900s (check out a German techno variation from 2008 here).
“Baby Shark” became so popular, Pinkfong! released a version about monkeys last year that people haven’t exactly gone bananas for (it’s been viewed a mere 8 million times) as well as a Christmas version that puts the Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo in Fa La La La La.
Last September on The Late Late Show, host James Corden enlisted Sophie Turner and Josh Groban to bring a whole new vibe to “Baby Shark.”
“Never has a song so clearly defined a generation,” Corden said.
Nearly three years after its release, "Baby Shark" is the "Despacito," "Gangnam Style" or "Macarena" of 2019.
And just when you thought it was safe to go into YouTube again, it's flooded with “Baby Shark” dance challenges of all kinds. Here's a sampling:
