Mayor Provides Final Report From UBCM Meetings

Salmon Arm's Mayor and Councillors are back from the UBCM gathering.

Mayor Alan Harrison says staff met with seven provincial ministries.

Top of the list was highway issues, like Highway 97B and 10th Ave, with Harrison telling us "If you drive out there now, you will see new permenant lit-signage, and that will help to calm traffic at that intersection."

Harrison says that more work could be on the way there in the future "We also would like to see the speed limit reduced to 70km/h in that corridor, the Minister did not make a promise, saying 'let's see hows this works'."

That intersection sees numerous collision each year.

The Mayor also spoke about an impressive keynote address from Peter Mansbridge "It made you very proud to be Canadian. He had examples of what Canadians are doing around the world, individuals in particular. I think everyone in the room realized we are fortuante, we're here to lobby and try to work things better, but we're pretty fortuante to be Canadian."

The UBCM gathering ended on Friday.
