Partnership boosts recycling efforts in region
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) and the Little Shuswap Lake Band (LSLB) are partnering on an initiative which will allow for a greater number of products to be recycled.
A recycling depot program, identical to the ones currently in place at the CSRD's landfill and transfer stations, will be operational at the current Little Shuswap Lake Band's transfer station effective immediately.
The depot is located at 1500 Little Shuswap Lake Road West.
The site will now collect the seven categories of sorted material accepted by the Recycle BC program, including paper products, plastic and metal containers, plastic bags, white Styrofoam, coloured Styrofoam, glass and flexible plastic packaging. Sorted materials will only be accepted from residential sources and the CSRD is working with businesses in the area to develop separate commercial recycling services.
An attendant will continue to be on site and can assist residents with the correct sorting of materials.
Once deposited in the bins, the recyclable materials will be collected by the CSRD and will be included in the Recycle BC program in operation across the regional district.
The new program will reduce contamination, expand the acceptable recyclable materials and ensure that recyclable materials received at the new depot are recycled properly. The CSRD looks forward to continuing to work with the LSLB on recycling initiatives.
