Céline Dion On Why She's Single: 'I'm Still In Love'
Nearly four years after the death of her longtime husband René Angélil, Céline Dion says she’s not looking for a man.
“I’ve been living all my life with René. He’s still within me,” the singer said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I see him through the eyes of my children every day.”
Angélil met Dion when she was 12 and turned her into a global superstar. They were married from 1994 until his death from cancer in January 2016.
Dion said she’s been single ever since. “I don’t date, I don’t have a boyfriend,” she said. “It doesn’t mean that I will not find someone in my life. If I do, that would be great. If I don’t, that would be great, because I’m still in love.”
Dion laughed off rumours that she has been dating Pepe Muñoz, who is 17 years her junior.
“He’s gay! He’s not my boyfriend. He’s gay,” she explained. “Calm down, I’m not trying to hide here, everything’s cool, but we can hold hands, we can go to the movies and restaurants. Calm down, people!”
During her WWHL appearance, Dion said the title track of her new album Courage would be René’s favourite.
“It represents the whole album and he was so courageous to fight for so long, his battle,” she said. “Before he passed he really wanted me to go back on stage.
"He really wanted me to go back and he really wanted me to live, move, dance, sing and I think he would be proud of this album.”
Dion performs tonight and Friday in her hometown Montreal as part of her Courage world tour. She stops in Toronto on Dec. 9 and 10 and returns to Montreal for show on Feb. 18 and 19. In April, Dion performs in Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.
