Sean 'Diddy' Combs Is 2020's Most 'Dangerous' Music Star
Think twice before you do a Google search for Sean Combs.
According to McAfee, the hip-hop mogul is 2020’s most “dangerous” music artist to search for online.
For the 14th year, McAfee has compiled lists of 10 famous names that "generate the riskiest search results that could potentially trigger consumers to unknowingly install malware on their devices.”
It searched celebrity names alongside the phrases “torrent,” “free mp3,” “nudes” and “pirated download.”
Anna Kendrick tops a list dominated by music artists. After Combs (aka Diddy) there is Mariah Carey at No. 4, Justin Timberlake (No. 5), Taylor Swift (No. 6) and Jason Derulo (No. 10).
The most “dangerous” music artist to search for in the UK is Mick Jagger, who ranked No. 5 on a list topped by talk show host Graham Norton.
A McAfee spokesperson told iHeartRadio.ca the company did not compile a list for Canada this year.
“Cybercriminals use consumers’ fascination with celebrity culture to drive unsuspecting fans to malicious websites that install malware on their devices,” warned McAfee’s Baker Nanduru, in a release.
“Consumers are searching the web for free online entertainment now more than ever, and as cybercriminals continue to implement deceptive practices such as fake sites claiming to offer free content, it is crucial that fans stay vigilant about protecting their digital lives and think twice before clicking.”
