Family of Jessica Patrick Balczer Demand Answers Regarding Her Death
The family of a young Smithers woman, whose body was found near Hudson Bay Mountain last September, are planning a public event in her memory this Saturday -- as they demand answers surrounding her death.
Eighteen-year-old Jessica Patrick -- also known by her father's surname of Balczer -- had been reported missing on September 3rd of last year -- three days after she had last been seen leaving the Mountain View Motel in Smithers.

The young mother's body was found on September 15th near the Hudson Bay Mountain Road lookout, by her aunt Mary Nicholas, as well as Nicholas's husband.
Police have never revealed the cause of death, nor released the results of an autopsy, and Nicholas says the family has become very frustrated.
"They just keep giving us dates after dates after dates -- first they told us March, and then it comes to April and now it's May and there's still nothing, so we just decided `okay we need answers, the family needs answers' -- like, what happened to her, how did she pass, does anybody know what happened to her?" said Nicholas.

Tuesday afternoon, the RCMP released a statement, saying "The investigation is and continues to be a priority and is active and ongoing. The investigators have had consistent communication with the family. Without compromising the investigation, they have shared pertinent details with the family. At this time there is no other information available to be released."
This Saturday (June 1), the family is planning to place a cross at the lookout, near the spot where Patrick's body was found, and then make their way to Boville Square for a 3pm gathering in her memory.
Nicholas is hoping other communities in the region hold similar events, in honour of all missing and murdered women along the "Highway of Tears".
