Northern Health and School District 82 talk COVID-19 cases in schools.
Northern Health and School District 82 held a virtual Townhall to provide an update to parents and guardians on how the COVID -19 virus is being handled within the school districts.
The panel included Superintendent Janet Meyer, Board Chair Shar McCrory, Northwest Medical Health Officer Dr. Raina Fumerton (FOMER-TON), and Acting Northeast Medical Health Officer and Regional Nursing Lead, Healthy Schools and Youth Petrina Bryant.
Topics discussed include transmission beyond a few close cases are rare and large outbreaks in the schools are extremely rare.
Fumerton added the health and safety protocols for COVID-19 within the school districts have been very useful.
She said it is not schools that drive our cases in BC and the North. Rather, it is those higher risk community settings and gathering at events that are the driver.
The panel reminds everyone to continue with proper handwashing hygiene and physical distancing and to wear masks where possible.
If you do experience symptoms, you are asked to get tested as well.
The School district will continue to inform the community if additional cases arise within each school district.
