Northwest municipal leaders say they're encouraged by Premier Horgan's commitment to negotiating a revenue-sharing agreement with them.

Horgan made the commitment last week at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in Vancouver, and singled out Terrace city councillor Sean Bujtas, as well as the mayors of Prince Rupert and Houston -- Lee Brain and Shane Brienen -- for their work in lobbying on behalf of the Northwest Regional Benefits Alliance.

They reminded Horgan that major projects such as the LNG Canada export terminal in Kitimat have impacts on local infrastructure and housing -- and communities need the resources to answer those challenges.

The alliance was formed in 2014, and represents municipal and regional governments from Haida Gwaii to the Lakes District.

It's goal is to make sure local governments benefit from the resource industries operating within their boundaries.

Horgan says it's important to negotiate an agreement which will stand the test of time.
