There will be two people running for the mayor's position and four vying for the vacant town council seat in next month's Smithers municipal byelection.
Returning officer Dianna Plouffe confirmed that former deputy mayor Gladys Atrill and local businessperson Joe Bramsleven had filed nomination papers by last Friday's deadline.
Four people are running for the council seat vacated by Atrill to allow her to run for the mayor's position.
Those candidates are Colin Bateman, Randy Bell, Mika Meyer and Sam Raven.
All candidates have until this Friday to withdraw from the byelection.
General Voting Day will be Saturday, October 17th, with advance polling on October 7th and 14th -- both Wednesdays.
In an effort to halt the spread of COVID-19, Smithers residents can also vote by mail -- but eligible voters must register by September 30th -- information is available on the town website.
