The S.H.A.R.P. Foundation (Society Housing AIDS Restricted Persons)
Established in 1990, the SHARP Foundation is a Calgary-based non-profit organization rooted in the LGBTQ2+ community. The SHARP provides a holistic relationship-centric model of care for people living with HIV and other complex health and social challenges. SHARP currently operates six programs in Calgary including 2 - 24/7 group homes with higher medical supports, a permanent-supported apartment building, 2 peer-mentored homes, and independent living with community supports. The Foundation has learned that to improve overall health & wellness it must build the resiliency of the people it supports as well as build stronger communities around them. Support for aging persons living with HIV (PLWHA) is SHARP's primary emerging issue specifically the additional home care, rehabilitation, and social, recreational & mental health services. In Calgary, over 50% of those aging with HIV also identify as being a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
